ODBC Connection failing

Hi,
I am having troubles connecting to my MySQL database. I am using the ODBC connector 3.51.19 with Microsoft Query (in Excel 2007 on Vista home premium 64 bit) and I keep getting the error message "Access denied for user 'sysadmin' @ 'localhost' (using password: YES)".
Any ideas? I'm not new to databases but this has me stumped.
Thanks,
Caleb

Have you got the database open while you are trying to access it? Simply has to be open and connected the database that you are trying to access with MS Query.

In addition to Brent's suggestion, you also should be aware that userid's and passwords are case-sensitive and passwords are only 7 characters maximum.

Make sure the user has third party rights assigned. Check that in Setup > Set up users in Simply.

In reply to Thank you all for your helpful input! I had everything correct as per your suggestions except I had an 8 character password. Once I changed that, I was able to connect.
Thanks again, I really appreciate your suggestions,
Caleb

You don't need to change the password since it was only the first 7 characters anyway, in Simply or in the other program.
