SA 2009 basic upgrade won't install

OS XP Pro SP3, 1 gig ram, P4 processor, 150g free hard drive space. Before trying to do the upgrade I rebooted the computer and shut off the Norton 360 antivirus and firewall. No other protection programs installed.  The install started by asking for preferred language, selected English and waited 5 to 10 minuites for the next screen. Selected full install. During the next 4 hours of trying to install I got past the request for serial number and names twice then it would hang with the CD running. Each time I tried to do the install I would remove the Cd and reboot. I gave up and tried to start SA2008 basic which gave me a connection manager error. I went to the icon on the tray which said it was not running so I clicked on the restart and was told I had to be an administrator to start connection manager. I am and was logged on as administrator. I went to control panel and checked to see if the service was running. Connection manager is set to automatic and indicated it was running. To overcome the connection manager problem and get SA2008 to run I had to reinstall SA2008 release C . Any ideas as to why SA2009 upgrade will not install? I have used the Simply software since the DOS days and this is the first time I have  not been able to install an update. I have 6 clients to update. Should I wait for the 2010 release?

    Hello Monty,

2008 and 2009 are the roughly the same size, with the same requirements.  I'm wondering if you maybe you have a faulty disc or something???  (Norton 360 and Spybot are pretty aggressive blocking the install but those are off which is good.)

Can you do the exact same process, but download the 2009 trial to install (and just use the serial and keycode from the product version you received in the mail to install the program as the full version?)  Or test the install on a different computer (again, to test if it's a problem reading the disc.)

Also, when doing the install make sure to install to a New Location, don't pick to over-ride the current install.  Let me know if this works!

I know it's not much of a consolation right now, but I've uninstalled and reinstalled 2009 dozens of times for print screens and so on so I know it installs and quite quickly so give those tips above a try and if you have any issues post back and I'll assemble a crew to call you with remote assistBig Smile

    Hi Kim

I downloaded the trial version and it installed. I can open the sample data but it will not accept my user name and password to open my client's data. I get the message "You have to log in as system administrator to update the files". I am setup with admin. access. How do I get around this?

    Thanks

    Monty

    Hi Monty,

Make sure the data is local when doing the conversion (don't convert across the network).  If prompted for a user name and password, make sure you are using sysadmin as the username.  Does this work?

Typing in sysadmin in user name and my password worked. This needs to be changed so when a user who is an administrator can logon without using sysadmin..Data has converted and I am now ready to use the data.

    Thanks for you help
