    Payroll glitch in version 2008

    My accountants copy of 2008 gave me a message to the effect that SimplyCare had expired and automatic payroll calculation was therefore disabled.  The message gave me a 4-digit code and had a blank space to enter a renewal code.  I know for a fact that our subscription is valid until Dec.31, so I called tech support and was given a "renewal code" to enter in the blank space and the message disappeared.  The technician told me it was a program glitch to be fixed when the 2009 tax tables are released.  I received a call today from a client who did an entire payroll with no deductions taken, because he bypassed this message.  I suspect a lot of people will bypass the message just to get the job done.  I would have thought that the bugs would have been worked out by now.  After all, the program was released 12 months ago.  I wonder what problems will surface with the 2009 version as more people start using it?

    For others reading this, we had the same message happen to our program around the time of our renewal back in September. The program asked for a renewal code.

    Instead of phoning for a renewal code, go to Help, Check For Updates and press the 'Check Now' button.  It works! (Unless of course your Payroll Subscription is truly up for renewal)

    I'm pretty sure I was told this only affects the Accountant's Edition, not the others.

    Hi there:  I am using 2008 Basic (or whatever the equivalent was when they sent it to me last year) and I had the message come up too, long before my renewal was due.  (By several months.)   I also phoned Simply to ask what was going on and they gave me a code or something so that I could carry on.   So it wasn't just the Accountant's version.    Rita Deering

    My copy already had the latest updates, so it wasn't that.  But thanks for the reply!
