    Suspence

Can someone please tell me what the suspence account is for under expenses. I have looked back at an entry made and it is for a hydro bill. The accountant has credited the bank account for $169.70 and debited the gst paid on purch 8.08 and debited the suspence account 161.62.....

Just wondering if someone may know the reasoning in this so I can understand better.

    Thank you

Hi there:  If the paid hydro bill is a legitimate company expense, I would suspect that posting it to the Suspense account instead of the Utilities account was probably a mistake.  The suspense account is generally used only as a "holding" account for something that you are unsure of posting to any other expense accounts because you don't know what it is for.  Anything in the Suspense account would then be looked up and clarified and reallocated to a correct account once you find out what it was for.   You would probably try very hard not to have to use the Suspense account because, hopefully, you know what the entries are for and can post them to the correct accounts at the time of doing your postings.   It's always more time consuming to "go back" and try to figure something out than finding out right away and dealing with it.     Rita Deering

Hi Rita thank you again for being so helpful........yes the hydro bill is a monthly utility bill this is why I did not understand why it was posted to the suspence account. Im thinking it was probably an error but I thought I would check in case someone might know why it was done!!! Holy hanna........so much to learn!!!!   lol

Thanks again for being so helpful Rita...and everyone else!!!
