Tongue Tied [:S] Creating a new company using the wizard

I have Simply Accounting Enterprise 2008 Release C.  I have just tried to create a new company with a year end of March 31, 2009.  I signed in as SYSADMIN, I used the wizard but when I FINISH, I get the message "Simply Accounting cannot find the Simply Accounting Connection Manager"

I have the connection manager icon which I clicked on.  It tells me the Connection Manager is running YES  and there is System Service YES but there are zero connections.

Am I missing a step in opening a new company?

     Hi Kate,

Where is the new company being saved?  Try creating it right on the desktop of your computer and let's se if you get an error message.

I suspect that you're maybe, knowingly or unknowingly, selecting a location, such as the server (or another computer), a USB stick or maybe an external drive.  These locations would not have the connection manager running on them so that's why you could get that error.

I got in contact with a local recommended consultant who advised me to try creating the company on my C drive.  That worked fine.  Then I copied the SAJ and SAI files to the LAN and all is okay.  The company is up and running and all users can access no problem.

The consultant thought that while Simply Accounting updates had been done through the year, that the update for the Connection Manager (which is a separate process) was not done.

Do you agree with that assessment?

Go to the computer where the files are now located and click on the Connection Manager icon beside the clock.  If it doesn't say v2.0 then the 2008C update was only put on the workstations and not on the server.

The installation instructions that came with Version C did not indicate this but you do need to install it on the server also.

Creating company files using SA 2008C with files on a server running an earlier version of the Connection Manager will fail but you can run the company afterwards once you get it created on your local computer as you have done.

I tried to do a screen print and paste it here but that didn't work.

The connection manager says v2.0 and it says running BUT is says 0 (zero) connections and 0 (zero) companies active when I currently have three companies open.

    It also says port 13531

     Is that right?

The port is correct but you are doing this on the computer you run Simply Accounting on.  Since this is not where the files are located, you will get zero connections and zero companies open.  They are open on the other computer, your file server.  So walk to that computer and click on the same icon and see what it says with the file open on your computer.  I'm betting it says version 1.x and does not have the Advanced Database Settings and the Connection Manager Stop Service button but if the file is open only on your computer, then it should show one open company with two connections.
