NO NEED TO SHOUT!  If you subscribed to the Simply Payroll you will get the upgrade to 2009 for free.  If  you do not have the Payroll subscription you can continue with the 2008 version but you will have to calculate the Payroll deductions manually.

I'm still using 2007 and doing payroll, I'm enrolled in Simply Care so I get the payroll updates with that as well as program updates. I've not had any problems using 2007 and I don't have to manually do my calculations as the payroll updates for 2007 are still coming.

I've been avoiding upgrading my 2007 to 2008 because of all the network d-base issues. 

I would not expect payroll tables to be released for Simply 2007 Canadian version to handle payroll in 2009.  The Sage policy is to support the current version and one version back.  Now that 2009 has been released, 2009 is the current version for payroll in 2009 and 2008 is the one version back.  Kim or Nemanja can correct me if this is not the case.

Since the original poster has 2008 they would be fine to not update until 2010 version then, if that's the case. Postpone the headache for a year. I'm in the middle of trying to get 2008 to talk to the server because I'm worried that the payroll/program updates will stop coming...two days so far and a lot of reading of forums and knowledgebase and so far no luck.

 That's correct Richard, updates are released for the current version and the one previous to it.

 Updating from 2008 to 2009 should be very straight forward since there aren't any big changes between those two versions.  Cindy is correct though, as far as tax tables are concerned, you don't have to upgrade until the 2010 version.

Have you installed the Data-only install of Simply Accounting on the server?  Are you getting any errors on starting the Connection Manager on the server?  Will it operate on your workstation ok?

Yes I have installed data only to my server (which BTW is just a regular PC that we store files on)

No errors, Connection Manager is saying it is running just fine.

I put the file on my computer to test it out and it works just fine (I converted it that way too)

I'm just trying a reinstall while having all security software disabled on both machines. I'll let you know if that worked.

I could just run 2008 on my machine and skip the whole network thing and do the other companies books in 2007 since they don't do payroll and that is the only reason I'm updating to 2008 with this company. *sigh* Anyone know of any accounting programs that do departmental accounting, but aren't huge like Enterprise? 

Did you install the C update on both computers?

The CD they sent me is version C with the payroll taxes effective July 2008. I just got this in August as they previously sent me Enterprise automatically with my SimplyCare and that is just more program than we needed and since premium has departmental accounting we went with it instead.
