    Payroll cheques not printing

    I am worinng in a company that has been in use for 5- 6 years with no problems. 

    The last time I used the company to write the payroll cheques, the cheques would not print.  The program will print cheques from the payable account just not from the payroll.  There were no changes made to the Reports and Forms set-up.

    I am able to print payable and payroll cheques from the other companies that I have set up.  This problem is not affecting any of my other companies.

    Any ideas on how to make the program print the payroll cheques?

    While you have the problematic company open: go to Reports & Forms Options screen, click on the + sign in front of Cheques, highlight the bank used for the payroll:  What do you have in all the fields for Payroll Cheque Settings?

    Hi, 

    I have the same problem since I updated to Simply 2008.  I can no longer print payroll cheques despite trying everything mentioned elsewhere in these forums.

    Perhaps you can share your solution with me ?

    You should check your settings in the pane entitled Payroll Cheque Settings: more than likely that’s were the problem is with a strong emphasis on the address in the field named Form.  Perhaps you could report the settings you have now for both Payment Cheque Settings and also Payroll Cheque Settings.

    Thanks for responding.

    I tried to post the screen print of the cheques Set-Up her but the Paste option doesn't seem to work.

    I use the same settings for both Payables and Payroll, the 8 x 11 short form, a preprinted cheque (checked for both Payroll and Payables) Arial 10 font, Margin Top .30, the other margins 0.

    These are the same setting I have always used.  I should also mention that i do not get an "error message".  It just doesn't react when I click on Print.  When I look in Printers undr the Control Panel, it shoes 0 documents pending which means the Printer is jsut not getting the message there's a cheque to be printed.

    Do you have any suggestions based on these details?

    What about for Printer? What do you have there? And number of copies?

    For Copies, I have 1

    and Printer  is Brother MFC-420CN USB on Net 06 which is the only Printer I use other than for Invoices which I print to pdf and then email.

    I wonder if it has something to do with my dowloading the new Simply 2008 Release C?  Could there be a glitch with the new update? I couldn't find anything in the Knowledge Base about it.

    What happens if you click on the Print Preview icon (or File>Print Preview) and can you print from the preview screen (click on Printer icon)?

    First of all, I would try and print a word document. If that prints, then we know printer is connected and working.

    Second, as someone mentioned can you do a print preview from the cheque screen and see the cheque on the screen. If you can, click on the printer icon on that screen. Does that print? if it does, then you should be able to print normally next time.

     Thrid, if you can't see the print preview screen, then you probably have pre-printed setting selected. Try and go back to Settings-> Reports and Forms-> Cheques-> Bank-> Payroll Cheque Settings and change it from 'Pre-Printed' to 'Custom Form'. Also, check the correct printer is selected. Press ok, and try again.

    Thanks for trying to help but I’ve already tried all of those options. Yes everything else prints fine including payables cheques (which I use the same setting for) I can not do a Print Preview.  Nothing happens when I click that. Yes I do have Preprinted option selected and I did change it to Custom setting but even then nothing happens when I click Print Preview. I have given up after having tried all the suggestions I have received.  I have gone back to using Simply 2007 for my payroll and printed from thereand then use a journal entry to post the payroll totals to Simply 2008.  Of course now I don’t know what to do when it comes time to print my T-4’sas up until I downloaded the Rev C of Simply 2008, everything worked fine so I will have part of my Employee summaries on Simply 2007 and part of the data on Simply 2008. What I’d really like to know is since there’s apparently non way of solving this problem, can I go back and uninstall the Rev C software update?

    Have you tried downloading and installing the C update outside of Simply?  When you posted the payroll in 2008, why didn't you go and post them in Payroll like all the other cheques.  You have not reported any problems posting, only printing.  This would fix your T4 issue until you can fix your other problem.

    You are correct.  I can post the payroll entries.  I just can't print the cheques.  So I can do it in Simply 2007 and print it out and then go back and enter it again in Simply 2008 and just post it so the information will be there for the T-4's.

    As for installing the Rev C, I upgraded to Simply 2008 earlier this year and then in June decided to install the "C" update as per the email I received saying there was an update.  I downloaded the update to my computer and then installed it.  Then I converted my data and went to do payroll, I found out I could not print payroll cheques.  Since then I have tried every option and suggestion all to no avail.  A lady at support was looking into the problem but I guess she couldn't find the glitch because she never got back to me.

    So for the time being I am "hooped".

    I'd still attempt a reinstall of the C update.  I installed it on my system and it prints here using the two-stub payroll cheque and the form designer template.  I just checked the knowledgebase and there is nothing about payroll cheques not printing yet, so they may not know the exact cause.  They haven't told the consultants anything about it yet either.  So, I would do the reinstall and see what happens, it only takes two minutes.  Just make sure you exit Simply first and then count to 20 before you run the install.  Better still, reboot the computer first and do not open Simply.  Immediately run the update.

    Well, I took your advice and did a re-install of the Rev C update and still the same problem.

    I use lots of different software and everyhting else prints fine.  Even my payables cheques print fine.  I just can't print any paycheques. 

    I am using Vista.  I wonder if there's a special update you should use if you're Vista although if that was the case, you usually tell you that when you go to do the download.

    Okay, can you tell us exactly what happens when you are trying to print a paycheque?

     Any error boxes pop-up?

    Do you see a little printer icon on the bottom right hand corner of the screen? (in system tray)

    You said you are on pre-printed setting. Correct? Did you into the printing settings (Settings -> Reports and Forms -> Cheques -> Make sure to choose the correct bank account) and check the printer is correctly set for both payable and payroll. Also, when did it stop printing? Recently?

    Did you try to change the settings between pre-printed to custom forms and print?
