Thanks in advance for your help

did you try leaving the password blank?

sysadmin as the user and a blank password (or use the one that you entered when you converted the data)

    Re: unable to log in

I'm having the same problem since I installed the "July 1, 2008 update" from the CD. None of the passwords assoctiated with the database work any more. Leaving the sysadmin password blank does not work.

Software written by competent profesionals should NOT corrupt user passwords on a whim!

I'm a professional bookeeper, I can't recommend your software to any of my clients if I can't trust that it will perform correctly without corrupting data.

     This is truly unacceptable,

    Hi Zlatna,

The passwords are not corrupted.  The problem is that a program, most likely your antivirus, conflicted with the installation of the update.  Even though it looked like the updates installed successfully, it did not.  The solution is to reinstall the update.  The best way to go about this is to download it directly from our website, save it to your desktop and then run it from there.  If it installs successfully, you will be able to open your company files with your current passwords.

If you are using the 2008 version, you can download the updated by clicking HERE

    Re: unable to log in

It comes as no surprise to me that that did NOT fix the problem, I am still unable to log it, it is still telling me that the user name and password are incorrect. I tried it twice, even turned off my anti-virus (which I don't buy for a minute contibuted to the problem).

Well written software by compentent programmers does not "appear to install an upgrade" when the install has failed, well written software gives the user an error message at the time.

How can one tell whether this badly programmed mishmash of yours has in fact "correctly installed the upgrade"?

I think my best solution is to completely uninstall all traces of Simply Accounting 2008 and then go back to the original version of this badly written program, and  forget about any "upgrades" and convert the client over to QuickBooks at year end.

    Unimpressed.

    Re: unable to log in

    Hi Zlatna,

It looks like there is still something blocking the installation from completing successfully.  I gave the antivirus as an example of the most common culprit but, as you have experienced, it's not the case for everyone.  At this point we would have to shut down all non-essential programs from running and repeat the installation.  To do this, click on Start and Run.  Type in msconfig in the Open: field and click on OK.  In the System Configuration Window, select the Startup tab and uncheck all programs except for Simply.  When they are all unchecked, click on OK, the system will prompt you to restart the computer and you should do that.  When the computer starts up again, you will see a message advising you that Windows started with Selective startup options, you can just ignore this message for now and close the System Configuration Window.  Run the update again, it should still be on your desktop.  Once you are able to open your company, go back to Start-Run-msconfig and in the first tab, select Normal Startup.  When you restart your computer, everything will be back to normal.

If you have trouble following these instructions or if you still have a problem opening your company, please contact our technical support at 1-888-522-2722 or through the online chat.

    Re: unable to log in

Hi there:  Just jumping in here to express my opinion as well.  I will be installing (from CD sent by Simply as I pay extra for this) the July 1, 2008 Release C upgdade today.  If it turns out that I have the same problem as the previous poster I will be completely unable to understand the above noted instructions!  I am a bookkeeper!!!!  NOT A COMPUTER PROGRAMMER!!!!   I haven't a clue what you are talking about.  Nor do I think for one minute that I should have to be put into a position such as this.  Installing upgrades to Simply over the past 10 years has never been this kind of problem the way it has been since 2008 came along.      The amount of dollars wasted for companies paying their bookkeeper's to cope with all the problems that have been encountered doesn't seem to fizz on the Simply programmers.  What are they thinking???     Anyway, I still like the basic Simply system but must agree that if it doesn't work the way it is supposed to the frustration level is beyond imagination.   What a way to ruin your day, week, month, even year!!!     I have been having little quirks happening in my system since the 2008 Upgrade was installed as well.  Nothing that has stopped me from doing my work but has been a paper waster and a time waster.         Rita Deering

     Hi Rita,

I appreciate this feedback.  You're right in many ways.  Your job is bookkeeping.  The steps we provide to run these updates are IF a problem is encountered and because the question is being asked in the forum, in this media type.  This is not to say that all users encounter these issues (we have tens of thousands of clients on CARE plans right now - could you imagine this forum if each one encountered an issue?)  If you're not a technician and not technically inclined I appreciate that completely.  It's a payroll update so support plan or not, our Customer Support Department will assist you with the installation.

I hope this clarifies somewhat and thank you again for your feedback.

How do you tell if a program update is installed correctly?

Bottom right-hand corner of the splash screen as you open Simply, it tells you the version and the date the payroll taxes are effective.

If you miss this when you open the program, open the Sample file (first option on the dialog window) and then go to Help, About Simply Accounting and it will give you the version and click Support Info and it will tell you the registration information and the date the payroll taxes are effective.  This second option does assume you can get into the sample file.  However, the first option should work for you.

    Hope this helps

I am also having the same issue, I can no longer log into Simply Accounting 2008 Premium following an attempt to upgrade to July 1, 2008 Release C.  I am the owner of a software development company and do not buy the "something blocking the installation from completing successfully" excuse. According to the splash screen the client software has been successfully updated to the July 1, 2008 Release C.  The password box now only accepts 6 characters, and all of our passwords are greater than 6 characters in length.  Please tell me what can we do to resolve this issue?

    Thank you,

    Andrew

    Re: unable to log in

     MIne also showed Release C.

What I ended up doing to fix this problem was completely uninstalling Simply Accounting 2008, and then reinstalling it from the CD's that I have, and then "upgrading" to Release C from the download of C that was linked here.

At the point I uninstalled it, using the "Add/Remove Programs" function of Windows, it gave me an error message about a dll file that had something to do with the Version of the software (I did not write down the exact name of the dll). It seems pretty obvious to me, that the problem is with that particular .dll file and not with something "blocking" the install. Someone in support should be providing information about that dll file, and what size and date it should be, and a place to download the correct version of the .dll file and not going through the nonsense of the blocked install, reinstall it from a file downloaded to your desktop, blah blah blah.

I don't have time to waste on amateur software, I will be strongly advising all of my clients to switch over to Quickbooks (which I think is a better product anyway) at the next year end.
